danging_01.jpgDeneen Connolly was born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland. Exposure to the musical talents of her family at a very young age ensured that music and dance would play prominent roles in Deneen's life.  She started jazz and tap lessons at the tender age of 10 and it was then that her love of dance and dance performance was born.

An accomplished fitness professional since 1992, Deneen was certified in Toronto as a fitness leader and a fitness counselor. Throughout her career she has taught a wide variety of fitness classes and she has designed and delivered Stress Management Workshops and specialty classes in Arthritic Movement.

In 1999 Deneen returned to Newfoundland to live and brought her passion for dance, movement and fitness with her. She started her company Deneen's Eastern Exercise in 2000 offering corporate health and fitness with an emphasis on Yoga and Stress Management to clients like Newfoundland Hydro,  Aliant, Newfoundland Power and St. John’s City Hall to name a few. In all of Deneen’s endeavors she stresses the importance of living a balanced life through fitness, nutrition, lifestyle management and most importantly, FUN.

In early 2004 Deneen fell in love with eastern traditional Belly Dance and made it a priority to bring this exciting form of exercise and sensual movement to her clients. She first taught a Latin Group Fitness class at New World Fitness in 2000 and added Latin flavour to her Dance-Fit For Fun Classes in 2004. In 2005 Deneen visited Cuba for the first time and her commitment to create a Latin Dance community in St. John's was cemented.

danging_03.jpgCurrently Deneen teaches Salsa at The Bella Vista on Tuesday nights as well as a Latin Cardio class at Bense Pilates Studio 100 on Thursdays.  Her Belly Dance classes at Bense are very popular and often sell out including the Belly Dance Cardio class that takes place on Saturdays.

Performance figures prominently into Deneen’s work with regular Canada Day gigs with the DeeDance Belly Troupe, Tango and Latin Dance performances at the quarterly World Dinner and Dance Shows and The Latin Fiesta and various other private performances from bridal showers to conventions and corporate parties. 

In 2008 Deneen formed DMC Entertainment, a production company that creates The World Dinner & Dance Show and The Latin Fiesta. These events happen regularly at The Bella Vista in St. John’s and are a large part of Deneen’s commitment to the creation of a Latin Dance community in the city.
